This page explains how RecoverYourSite.com handles your information. We have tried to keep it straightforward and honest, so you actually know what is going on rather than having to wade through pages of legal text. If anything is unclear, just email us at hello@recoveryoursite.com.
RecoverYourSite.com is run by Razi Haider, based in India. We help people recover lost websites from the Internet Archive and deliver them as working ZIP files. You can read more about how the service works on our How It Works page.
What information we collect
We only ask for what we genuinely need. When you submit a restore request on our restore tool page, we collect your email address and the Archive.org URL you want to restore. The email is how we send you your download link and let you know when the restore is done. The URL tells us what to recover.
We also log your IP address briefly when you submit a request. This is purely to prevent abuse and rate limit requests. We do not store it beyond a couple of hours and we do not use it to identify you.
If you purchase a plan, the payment itself is handled by Lemon Squeezy. We never see your card number or billing details. All we receive from them after a successful payment is a notification that you paid and which plan you chose. You can see our available plans on the Pricing page.
How we use your information
Your email address is used to send you the restore results. That is the main reason we collect it. After a free restore, we might send you one or two follow-up emails about upgrading to get the rest of your site back. You agreed to that when you checked the consent box on the restore form. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email we send.
We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising. We do not track you across the internet. The Archive.org URL you submit is only used to run your restore job and then it sits in our database for 7 days before being deleted. Everything we do with your data is covered in the table below.
| What we do with it | Data involved | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Process your restore request | Archive.org URL, email, IP | Contract performance |
| Send your download link by email | Email address | Contract performance |
| Send restore progress updates | Email address | Contract performance |
| Send upgrade offers after free restore | Email address | Consent |
| Prevent abuse and rate limiting | IP address | Legitimate interest |
| Process payments | Email, plan selected | Contract performance |
How long we keep your data
Once your restore is done, the ZIP file stays available for 24 hours on the free plan and 48 hours if you paid. After that it is deleted from our server automatically. The job details including the URL you submitted and the activity log are kept for 7 days and then removed. Your email address is kept for about 30 days after your last restore, mostly so we can send follow-up emails if you opted in, and then it is gone unless you have an active paid order.
Payment records are kept for 7 years because tax law requires it, but those are held by Lemon Squeezy as the Merchant of Record, not by us directly.
Third parties we work with
A few external services are involved in running RecoverYourSite.com. Here is the full picture:
| Service | What they do for us | Data shared | Where they are based |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lemon Squeezy | Payment processing and global tax compliance | Email, plan, order amount | USA |
| Brevo | Transactional email delivery | Email address and email content | France (EU) |
| Cloudflare Workers | Proxy for fetching archived pages | Archive.org URLs only, no personal data | USA |
| Internet Archive | Source of all archived website content | Website URLs you submit | USA |
| Hostinger | Web hosting and file storage | All data processed on this server | EU / Lithuania |
All of these providers are required to handle your data responsibly and in line with applicable privacy laws. Where data is transferred outside the EEA, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.
Cookies
We use barely any cookies. Regular visitors to the site get no tracking cookies at all. There is no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel, nothing like that. Your restore progress is tracked through a unique URL token, not through cookies. The only cookies that might appear are basic WordPress session cookies for admin users, which have nothing to do with regular visitors.
Because we set no non-essential cookies, we do not show a cookie consent banner to regular users. If that changes in future we will update this section accordingly.
Your rights
If you are based in the EU or UK, you have full GDPR rights over your data. In short you can ask us what personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to stop using it for marketing, or ask us to hand it over in a portable format. Just email hello@recoveryoursite.com and we will respond within 30 days.
You can unsubscribe from our marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email we send. If that does not work for any reason, just reply to any of our emails asking to be removed and we will handle it manually within 48 hours.
If you feel we have not handled things properly and you are in the EEA, you have the right to raise a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Children
Our services are not aimed at anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you think we have done so by mistake, get in touch and we will delete it right away.
Security
We take reasonable steps to keep your data safe. All connections to our site run over HTTPS. ZIP files are stored in a protected server directory that is not publicly accessible. Download links are protected by unique tokens so only you can access your restore. We delete everything on a rolling schedule so old data does not sit around.
No system is perfect and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take it seriously and act quickly if something goes wrong.
Changes to this policy
If we change something significant about how we handle your data, we will update this page and change the date at the top. For major changes we will email users who have had a recent restore.
